American Teenagers

American Teenage Culture

Adolescence in America are often described and shown in various movies and television programmes. American teenage culture is formed around the theme of Freedom. It is treated as the years you come to find who you are and break away from being a child. American teenagers were some of the first teenagers world wide to rebel and begin the stereotype of 'The Teenager'.

The Culture of adolescents began in  the 1950's. World War 2 had ended and live in America was slowly going back to normal. Before this time shows, movies and music were aimed at young children or adults. The adolescent age group had been ignored by the media, this made many teenagers feel ignored and left out. In the 1950's this began to change. New TV dramas and music became
released which focused on the High School life and the other aspects teenagers experienced through the years of thirteen to nineteen. The movie "Rebels Without a Cause" gave recognition teenagers had for years longed for became reality and they embraced it. From this adolescents created their unique style and fashion. This is the era where the word teenager was invented, the definition of teenager is that you are not a child but not yet an adult.

Chinese Teenage Culture

The Chinese Teenage Culture is a lot different to the Culture of Teenagers in the Western World. The adolescent years are very much focused on education. They do not recieve as much freedom due to them not having access to much money. There schooling years are formed around studying maths and science with seven day weeks for three months with a one month break, this happens three times.
Teenagers are this way because of the huge demands the Chinese government ask of them. The Chinese government want following generations to be strong and smart.

Chinesse Students

Teenage romantic relationships in China are not common, Mothers and Fathers in China frown upon them and it is not socially correct to have boyfriend/girlfreind till you are over the age of seventeen.
